Welcome to Goals 4 Life

Clutter and ADD & ADHD

Every one has some clutter in their home; it is only the amount that varies. For some people their clutter might be a few drawers in the kitchen, for others their whole home. How much clutter you have doesn't matter, what does matter, is that you start to reduce it. You have probably been meaning to attack it for a while, but there never seems to be a good time. However, when you realize how much clutter effects you, both emotionally and physically, you will want to start reducing it straight away.

What are the negative effects of clutter?

  1. Insufficient attention, focus and clarity (this is already a problem for people with ADD, but it's heightened by a cluttered environment)

  2. Lack of time for your self, family and friends

  3. Feelings of stress, irritability and anxiety,

  4. Feeling overwhelmed

  5. Feeling antisocial

  6. Defeat, fatigue and depression

  7. Lack of self respect

If this sounds depressing, don't despair; merely use it as a catalyst for change. There are wonderful benefits to a non-cluttered area.

What are the benefits of a clutter free home?

  1. Clarity of thought and improvement in attention

  2. Feelings of calm and peace

  3. Increased energy

  4. Increased happiness

  5. Feeling in control of your life

  6. Feeling good about yourself

  7. Time for yourself

  8. Time for friends and family

  9. Time for your goals and dreams

Action!

  1. There is no time like the present, so make a start today.

  2. Pick the area that you would most like to see clutter free.

  3. Work on that area for 15 minutes.

  4. Continue for longer if you genuinely want to, but don't do it out of guilt.

The trick of getting rid of clutter is to have persistent daily action.

If you have a large area then 15 minutes a day might seem like a drop in the ocean, but after a week that is nearly 2 hours. So you will very quickly start to see a difference in the area you picked.

  5. Start to notice the emotional and physical benefits!
